About Us

It started with a dog

Every running story starts with someone who won't sit still. Ours had four legs.

Rudy, a chocolate Labrador, the original Bog Dog, connoisseur of every puddle between Stamford and the Welland — got Laura and her youngest daughter out of the house most weekends. Dog walks turned into runs. Runs turned into races. And somewhere in that first year came the lesson this whole shop is built on:

The wrong kit will ruin a run you'd otherwise love.

Shoes that never really fitted. A jacket that gave up in the first mile. None of it is about spending more — it's about someone knowing which of the forty boxes on the wall is the one for your feet, your legs, your next race.

Nobody was telling our fellow runners that. So we started Bog Dog Running.

We test the kit we sell

We road-test and trail-test as much of our range as we can get our feet into — in the rain, in the dark, on the Rutland Water path and up every muddy Lincolnshire bridleway we can find.

That means when you ask us how a shoe holds up at mile 18, or whether a jacket is genuinely waterproof or just optimistic, you get an answer from someone who's worn it — not a line lifted off the box. We're picky about the brands we stock for the same reason: we have to be able to stand behind every one of them.

From parkrun to ultras

A first 10k, a club league night, a Saturday morning you nearly talked yourself out of, a hundred miles you haven't told anyone about yet — it's all running, and we're here for all of it.

Between us the team has covered most of it, which is the point: whatever you're training for, someone behind the counter has done something like it and knows what the kit needs to do. No sizing you up. No suggesting you're not a "proper" runner. You run, so you're a runner.

What we stand for

We spend our weekends in the places running takes us — the fens, the fields, the trails, the coast — so we'd rather not wreck them. We work to keep our impact, our packaging and our supply chain as light as we can, and we're honest about where we've still got work to do.

Read our values

Never sit still

Challenge yourself. Dream big. Go hard — and then take the recovery days just as seriously.

Everything above happens in a real shop with a real kettle, at 42 Broad Street in Stamford. Come and find us: visit our Stamford store.
