Gait Analysis
Bog Dog Running are the exclusive provider of the Arionhub Gait Analysis in the Midlands
What is a Gait Analysis?
Gait analysis provides runners with essential information about their running style. This information is always important, as no matter how long you have been running, knowing your running style plays a crucial part in selecting the right shoes.
Gait analysis involves running for a few minutes on a treadmill while a recording by our Bog Dog Running Staff, who will then explain their findings in simple terms. Runners can then choose which shoes they prefer/like- selecting cushioning, structured cushioning and maximum support - based on the results.
As well as helping runners to find the right shoe by assessing the movement of the foot, video gait analysis also looks at leg and body movement to see if running efficiency can be improved. By slowing the video down (using the ARION technology) and viewing the different running stages in detail, we can help identify certain movements which may be triggering injuries or reducing efficiency.
The Experience
When you come in for your gait analysis, one of our experienced team members will first discuss your running with you, asking for details such as your goals, any injury history, the types of surfaces that you run on and the distances you are running. These can all have a bearing on the shoes that are recommended. It is always best to bring the shoes that you have been running in recently as they show a lot of clues about your running history to date. It doesn’t matter how old they are or what condition they are in!

FAQs about the ArionHub Gait Analysis System
What is a gait analysis?
Gait analysis is a way to understand how you run — how your feet contact the ground, how you load each step, and how your movement patterns change across different shoes — so you can make smarter choices about footwear, comfort, and training. ARIONHUB captures dozens of running metrics and turns them into an easy-to-understand report.
How does the fitting session work?
We fit ARION’s smart insoles and pods, capture a short run, then review your pressure maps + key metrics together. ARIONHUB also supports shoe comparison, so you can test more than one option and “see” which performs best for you across chosen metrics.
Do you test shoes I already own?
Yes — and that can be useful. It creates a baseline, then we can compare against new models to see what changes (pressure distribution, footstrike behaviour, loading, etc.).
What should I bring?
Bring the running shoes you currently run in, plus the socks you normally train in. If you use orthotics/insoles, bring those too so we can factor them into recommendations.
Do I need to run fast?
No. The goal is to capture your natural running. We’ll choose a comfortable, steady pace that you can maintain safely and consistently.
Will I get a report to take home?
Yes. ARIONHUB generates a digital report (often described as a “digital flyer”) so you can review your key metrics and comparisons after your visit.
Is a gait analysis suitable for beginners?
Yes. It’s designed to make metrics understandable and actionable, including for runners who are newer and want more confidence in shoe choice and technique basics.
How is the Arion Hub system different from “video gait analysis”?
Traditional video gait analysis is mainly visual (what we can see from the outside). ARIONHUB adds in-shoe pressure and movement data—so you’re not just looking at motion, you’re measuring what happens inside the shoe as your foot loads, rolls, and pushes off.
What does this gait analysis measure?
The session records “dozens of metrics” about running technique and performance, including footstrike, contact time, flight time, cadence, and more, alongside a pressure map and gait line that visualise how your foot loads and rolls through each step.
What happens after the gait analysis?
We’ll use your results to narrow down the right options, then run a quick comparison across a couple of models so you can see the differences clearly—before you decide. ARIONHUB is built to support that shoe comparison journey.
Can you use the results to recommend specific shoes?
Yes — that’s a core purpose of ARIONHUB in-store: help you test shoes and match the best option to your individual running identity, rather than guessing from a generic “pronation type.”
What is a “digital footstrike”?
It is a digital representation of your unique running technique—including where you initially load the foot at contact and how pressure moves through the foot during the stride.
What is a foot pressure map?
A foot pressure map shows where pressure is lowest to highest across different parts of your foot during running (rearfoot, midfoot, forefoot; medial vs lateral areas). It helps explain how you load and push off.
What is the gait line?
The gait line (sometimes described as the centre-of-pressure path) visualises how your foot “rolls” from initial contact through mid-stance to toe-off.
Will this tell me if I’m a heel striker or forefoot striker?
Yes. ARIONHUB classifies footstrike patterns (for example rearfoot, midfoot, forefoot) using the pressure sensors in the insole and shows where contact begins and how it progresses.
What is contact time?
Contact time is the time your foot stays in contact with the ground during each step (from initial contact to toe-off). ARIONHUB measures this and includes it in your report.
What is flight time?
Flight time is the time neither foot is in contact with the ground between steps (toe-off of one foot to contact of the other). ARIONHUB measures this as part of your running metrics.
What is cadence?
Cadence is your step rate (steps per minute). ARIONHUB calculates cadence based on step count over time.
What is “bioload”?
ARIONHUB includes a metric referred to as (predicted) bioload, used to help interpret loading demands during running and compare how different shoes influence your run.
